American Contractor Software Overview
American Contractor™ from Maxwell Systems is an integrated construction software suite developed to support contractors that need strong project management and accounting functionality. In addition to project management and accounting, American Contractor offers applications for estimating, bid management, takeoff, scheduling, customer management and service management. The software provides functionality for many standard construction management tasks, including prevailing wage reports, document management, fixed assets, bank reconciliation, materials billing and AIA billing.
Written in Microsoft Visual FoxPro, and programmed with hundreds of user-definable fields, American Contractor allows the tracking, reporting and sorting of data to fit the business needs of all types of contractors. With twenty years of continuous development specifically for the construction and service trades, the fully integrated program includes hundreds of system reports. But, since American Contractor was designed many years ago, the system lacks some essential capabilities. Lookups are inefficient, custom reports are difficult to write, there isn't any true change order management functionality and the system isn't able to combine cost codes and phases automatically for jobs. Furthermore, Maxwell Systems has announced it will be discontinuing support for this product at end of the 2011.
