Sage 300 for Construction and Real Estate, formerly Timberline Office, is a fully integrated construction management system that offers functionality for construction accounting, document management, project management, estimating, procurement and service management. The system also offers reporting and mobile computing tools. Another Sage Construction and Real Estate strength is its accounting flexibility. Users can customize many data fields and edit field names, and the software provides many user-defined fields.

Because Sage Construction and Real Estate can be tailored to each user’s individual requirements, setup can be complex. This puts a premium on the experience and competence of the reseller whose guidance is a critical part of the process. When evaluating Sage Construction and Real Estate, be aware that the tradeoff for receiving a structured accounting environment with flexibility is the setup. Sage is aware of the need for training and assistance, and has made a number of services available to help. When comparing Sage 300 Real Estate and Construction to other solutions, construction software buyers should factor in staff time for training, the cost of that training and the cost of a Sage Construction and Real Estate certified consultant to assist in the setup and customization. But the same could be said for many systems.

Its strongest application is accounting. Its project management and service management are capable but not outstanding.

Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Software Highlights:

  • Sage Construction and Real Estate has the horsepower to provide a solid accounting and project management backbone for contractors with revenues of $10M+ and staff that have strong accounting and computer skills
  • Exceptionally strong for subcontractor management and complex payroll situations
  • Sage Construction and Real Estate is a good fit for general contractors and companies working in the real estate development, home building and residential remodeling markets
  • Setup and training can be complex and expensive; however, Sage has taken steps to ease the learning curve by introducing new features based on the best practices of Sage Timberline Office customers, including Setup Central, Workflow Centers and Job Central
