Foundation Software, Inc., was founded in 1985 with the single goal of
developing the #1 job cost accounting software for the labor and
equipment-intensive contractor. The company’s first product, written for
Wang mini-computers, was released in January 1987. In 1991, the company
introduced a DOS-based product specifically geared to construction.
Foundation Software introduced its current Microsoft Windows®-based product, Foundation® for Windows®, (Foundation), in March of 2000. FOUNDATION is a complete re-write of the DOS product and utilizes the powerful Microsoft® SQL Server as the back end database, giving it unlimited flexibility and security.

Over 2,200 construction companies across the United States currently use Foundation as their job cost accounting system. Foundation Software serves contractors with as few as 10 employees doing $1 million in revenue per year and as many as 1,000+ employees and several hundred million dollars in revenue per year. The system is designed for commercial, industrial and government contractors, with general contractors, heavy/highway, and specialty contractors (ex: electricals, concrete, sewer, excavating, roofing, mechanical, etc.) making up the bulk of satisfied Foundation users.

The Foundation base system includes job costing, payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase orders & subcontracts, the patent-pending CPA audit/review module and the Genie Series of custom report, invoice, timecard and form designers.

Additional modules are also available and include project management, document control, scheduling, executive management, equipment usage and maintenance, inventory, fixed assets, time & material billing, unit price billing, and consolidated general ledger. Additionally Foundation integrates with various third-party software and hardware products like estimating, timecard entry systems, inventory tracking systems, handheld devices, etc.
