AIDS GROWTH OF UK SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURER
FOZMULA LTD
Fozmula Ltd was established in
its present form in 1991 following a buyout from Measurement
Ltd; formerly a subsidiary of AVO International, which was
itself a former division of Thorn EMI. In Thorn EMI, Measurement
Ltd was concerned with advanced electronic instruments. Following
the buyout Fozmula changed its product range to more industrial
markets, and thus the current lines of liquid, temperature
and level measuring instruments cover the whole technology
spectrum, from simple mechanical instruments, to sophisticated
electronics. The company is proud of its ability to produce
bespoke instruments to suit a specific installation in a
minimum of time, whilst also holding large stocks of standard
products for immediate shipment. In 1994 Fozmula obtained
ISO9001:1994, which was upgraded in 2003, to the ISO9001:2000
accreditation for its quality management systems. Employing
more than 50 people at its factory in Leamington Spa, the
company has grown in each year since its formation.
Fozmula's range of hydrostatic and tank contents gauges, float
and capacitive level switches, level monitoring transducers,
capacitive fuel level senders and engine monitoring equipment,
partly gave rise to the decision to introduce a new system
owing to the lack of a manufacturing module within their legacy
system. In addition to this, there was a lack of visibility
of some significant financial aspects of the company and a
separate CRM database, which also needed to be incorporated.
Furthermore, the previous system was DOS based, and together
with an old Novell server, they were unable to easily integrate
messaging, or any other modern technology.
Having reviewed a number of packages and shortlisted to three,
the key decision makers unanimously chose M1 for its ease of
use, customisation capabilities and appearance. Following this
decision, Fozmula went live within three months of the initial
installation, incorporating the Production, Accounts Receivable,
Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Multi-Currency Management,
Estimating/Quoting, Advanced Inventory Management, Document
Management, Advanced Bill of Material and Shop Floor Entry
modules for fifteen users.
Peter Fisher, Fozmula Marketing
Manager, said, "Whilst it
became apparent that the users of M1 need to follow a more
rigid regime and be aware of what they are doing, the discipline
required to run the legacy system was non-existent. There is
no doubt to us that the manufacturing/scheduling modules, customised
with a jobs cascading routine at order entry, allows us to
plan and execute our production with ease and accuracy. The
financials have taken a little understanding and we've
modified a few reports, but since all the modules follow a
similar pattern in design, they become semi-intuitive after
a short while. We have taken advantage of the offers by
B&G to customise forms and reports and these have been
done with speed and efficiency."
Peter added, "We see the use of M1 in Fozmula as an aid to
our intentions of growing the company substantially during
the next few years, in being able to see where our strengths
and weaknesses lie. We are only too pleased to recommend M1
to any of B&G Business System's prospects and are very
willing to be a reference site for any visits."
