Dexter + Chaney
Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Providing Forefront ® Construction
Suite Software SEATTLE , August 22, 2006: In the early 1980s, Mark Dexter and John Chaney believed they could start a successful construction-management software firm that translated their experience and knowledge with ERP implementations for large organizations to the construction industry. The two CPAs/MBAs were working side-by-side at the Seattle office of accounting giant Arthur Andersen in the early days of personal computers. Twenty-five years after they incorporated Dexter + Chaney in August 1981, the company is an industry leader. More than 1,000 construction companies throughout the United States employ its Forefront ® Construction Suite software. Dexter + Chaney regularly makes trade and local rankings for its size and growth rate and has earned industry honors for Forefront's capabilities. "We attribute the company's success over the years to our customers and employees-many of whom have been with us for many years," said Chaney, company president. "We rely on our customers to tell us how we can enhance Forefront to ensure that it meets their business needs. It truly is a partnership." The company recently celebrated its 25 th anniversary at a party for employees, customers, vendors, family members and others at its Seattle headquarters. The 11,800 -square-foot company-owned building houses most of Dexter + Chaney's 70 employees. EvolutionForefront has evolved over the years to offer 30 integrated modules that provide a broad range of functions enabling companies to manage their complex businesses. Construction companies of all types-including general, heavy/highway, utility, electrical, mechanical, HVACR and others-employ Forefront to handle project management, construction accounting, service management, human resources, document imaging, remote connectivity and data sharing. More than 7,000 total users make use of Forefront's Document Imaging component, which addresses a typically painful problem for contracting firms: giving management, office staff and project managers the fast access they need to important documents like AP invoices, change orders, payroll timecards, contracts and others. Companies that use Forefront report that they have improved profitability and have grown their businesses more than 300 percent without adding accounting staff. The FutureChaney, 50, and Dexter, 51, both CPAs/MBAs, remain active in the company's day-to-day operations. Other company owners are Brad Mathews, 51, vice president/sales and marketing, who joined the firm in 1992, and John Ulacia, 51, vice president/operations, a Dexter + Chaney employee since 1995. Chaney and Ulacia met in the University of Washington MBA Class of 1980; Mathews was a year behind them. Dexter holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1978). "We plan to continue what we've been doing: work with a great group of employees to offer an excellent product that helps construction companies manage their businesses," said Chaney. "Dexter + Chaney and Forefront will keep evolving as our customers and their needs evolve."
