Dexter + Chaney Changes Name of Forefront to Spectrum Construction Software

Name change denotes evolving features, benefits of software formerly known as Forefront

SEATTLE, July 2, 2007:  After 26 years at the forefront of construction management software, Dexter + Chaney (www.dexterchaney.com) has changed the name of its software marketed to construction companies throughout the United States.  Effective Monday July 2, 2007, Dexter + Chaney’s Forefront™ Construction Suite has been renamed Spectrum™ Construction Software—a change, the company explains, that better describes the software’s evolving features and benefits for the construction industry.

“The name ‘Spectrum’ allows us to highlight a wide range of advancements in the software while emphasizing its superior attributes,” said John Chaney, Dexter + Chaney president and co-founder.  “For many years, ‘Forefront’—symbolizing industry leadership—worked very well.  But we’ve decided that’s no longer sufficient.  Instead, we want the product’s name to more accurately reflect what our software does for our customers.

“Spectrum encompasses the wide range of activities, roles, processes and tasks that the software coordinates and unifies,” Chaney continued.  “We call it ‘connecting the dots.’  Spectrum allows the entire team—executive, operations and financial personnel—to work together smoothly, efficiently and effectively.”

In conjunction with the name change, Dexter + Chaney has completely redesigned its web site (www.dexterchaney.com) to make its extensive content more accessible to viewers.

Why ‘Spectrum?’

Chaney explained that Dexter + Chaney chose the name “Spectrum” to highlight these key attributes of the product: 

  • It illuminates a construction company’s business, providing enhanced visibility for key performance indicators that facilitate better decision-making. 
  • It offers a wide range of modules and functions (including Document Imaging, Dashboards, Project Management and Human Resources).  Those allow operations, executives and the financial group to manage their critical processes while sharing a consistent, up-to-date source of information.
  • It pulls together employees throughout the company, who perform a wide range of tasks that can be coordinated, facilitated and streamlined by using Spectrum. 

Chaney notes that Spectrum’s new Query and Dashboards module offers visibility and real-time access to a construction company’s key performance indicators like project, schedule and cost information.  The module’s graphic displays—or “dashboards”—provide that data in a concise, easily understandable format.  Dashboards are tailored to the specific needs of executive, operations and financial personnel. 

In late 2007, Dexter + Chaney will launch Spectrum’s Resource Scheduling module that will enable construction companies to use an integrated solution—rather than manual processes and spreadsheets—to schedule employees and equipment efficiently and profitably.  Also in 2007, Dexter + Chaney will overhaul Spectrum’s Equipment Management system, including critical tracking, repair and maintenance capabilities.  Further, major upgrades to the Work Order and Service Contract modules will enhance their ease of use and flexibility.

What Hasn’t Changed

The product has a new name, but another vital aspect of the company remains unchanged since John Chaney and Mark Dexter started the business in 1981:  an emphasis on customer service and  product innovation that help busy construction companies use Spectrum to manage all aspects of their businesses.  Those attributes help Dexter + Chaney regularly receive honors and make industry rankings for product quality and company growth.
