Sage Timberline Estimating Software Overview

Sage Timberline Estimating software is an intuitive, easy-to-use construction bidding program that uses a spreadsheet-like setup that is fed by a database. Two levels of Sage Timberline Estimating are available: Estimating Standard and Estimating Extended. This review focuses on Estimating Extended. This well-developed bidding software has a number of tools for refining estimates and increasing productivity. The Buyout function, for example, allows the user to turn detailed estimates into RFQs and purchase orders without additional data entry. A subcontractor bid grid streamlines the review of subcontractor quotes. And the Scheduling Integrator allows estimate details to be exported to third-party scheduling programs, like Microsoft Project. To create a customized bidding system, Sage Timberline Estimating offers a number of industry-specific solutions, including pricing databases with pre-built items, assemblies and models that can easily be modified.

Sage Timberline Estimating is notable for its various takeoff options. Quick Takeoff allows the user to drag one or more items from the database and drop them into the estimate. Other options include Item Takeoff, Assembly Takeoff and Model Takeoff, which is a good tool for conceptual or feasibility estimates. Sage Timberline Estimating also includes a Takeoff Audit Report for reviewing all items in the estimate in the order they were taken off, including date and time of takeoff, sequence, phase and so on. Another system tool is ePlan Takeoff, which integrates Sage Timberline Estimating with OnCenter’s On-Screen Takeoff for performing takeoffs using electronic plans.

Sage Timberline Estimating Software Highlights:

  • Sage Timberline Estimating can be used as stand-alone construction estimating software or as an integrated component of Sage's construction accounting and project management products
  • Sage Timberline Estimating Extended offers strong reporting features; examples include the Cost Variance report for comparing costs and quantities between two project and the Cost Comparison report, which allows the estimator to identify changes between the conceptual, interim and final estimates
  • Sage states that Sage Timberline Estimating solutions are consistently ranked as the “most used estimating” software packages in the construction industry
