Excerpt from Viewpoint ReviewViewpoint, current version 5.91, was first released in 1999. Viewpoint is a feature-rich product that is focused towards mid to large (volumes between $15 and $1 billion annually) general contractors, highway/heavy, and specialty contractors. The company’s predecessor product (Unix based) was introduced in 1990. Viewpoint Construction Software (formerly
Bidtek), headquartered in Portland, OR, has just celebrated its
29th year in service to the construction industry. The firm currently
employs 80 people, with an average 8-year tenure of employees.
The company is privately owned. There are currently 500+ construction
customers (40% general contractors, 40% highway/heavy, and 20%
specialty trades), including over 275 running the Viewpoint product. Viewpoint is a native Windows 32-bit program
requiring a Windows 2000/2003 server. On the desktop, you can
run Windows 2000 or XP. Microsoft Terminal Server, or Terminal
Server with the Citrix Metaframe extension, is the recommended
method for remote site access. Viewpoint employs Microsoft development
tools. The client (GUI) software is written in Visual Basic,
and the back-end database is Microsoft SQL Server. Viewpoint
is truly a multi-user, multi-tasking system. Viewpoint is an open database system. Open
architecture allows the user to take advantage of any ODBC-compliant
product to retrieve any information from the database. The core Viewpoint accounting package includes Job Cost, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll, Financial Statement reporting (FRx), Cash Management, Accounts Receivable, plus system utilities (Viewpoint Administration). The minimum license offered is 6 concurrent users.
